Ch: 5 Practical View (Week 3)
Chapter 5 starts our exploration of cultural studies within organizations and communication. The concept of 'practical view' is necessary in organizations because managers personally asks for advice and ideas from their employees to increase their satisfaction, as well as gain ideas about how to improve and enhance competition. Therefore, this usually leads to an effective organization where the balance is maintained between competitors as well as employees. At my work, we have quarterly meetings where our managers give us a topic to discuss with our co-workers. This usually consists of them telling us to make a list of pros and cons between all 5 of our front office managers, what we feel would improve the dynamic of our department, and ideas about how we would personally go about satisfying ourselves in the work environment. This is crucial within organizations because everyone is given the opportunity to give feedback as well as speak his/her own mind. If practical views weren't an option within organization, they wouldn't last for the long haul because employees/members wouldn't have the desire to stay due to a lack of satisfaction.

Aloha,
When I'm at work, my manager is asking us ways he can better improve his skills as a manager and how to make the work enviornment better for us. We have weekly meeting each month where we sit down as a group and discuss situations that have occured in the work place and how we can better improve it so that we don't have to encounter the same situation in the future. When we are able to communicate with each other and let each other know what's going on with one another, there is less chaos in the office and everyone is happy because there aren't any problems =)
Sorry I deleted my comment earlier there were some spelling errors that I wanted to correct:) I agree that giving feedback and making employees feel that their opinions are valued is beneficial for the employer or managers and employees. At my previos job we would have meetings about new implementations and my manager would ask us what we thought and if we had any feedback or ways to improve the new idea. We would also have conference calls monthly with every office in our region to discuss new things that are being rolled out to each office. On the call everyone gets a chance to say anything he/she wants without being judged.
I think the quarterly meetings are a great idea, especially the pro and con list. It's very important to give feedback so the employees feel like they have a say and so management can gain new perspectives about what can be improved.
I agree that employees will be dissatisfied with their job if they feel that their opinion doesn't matter. A voice in the company helps employees build self confidence and can help them move up at work.
